About

Citrus Brief cuts down what you have to read to keep up with California citrus, from the grove to the packing house.

Why we do this

A quarantine notice can matter to a pest control adviser (PCA), a grove manager or a packing house in different ways. Grower-owners may be looking at water and labor costs. Suppliers, researchers and handlers need other details. The county or variety involved can make the difference between an update you need and one you can skip.

Most of our work is deciding what to leave out.

What we cover

We follow pest and disease notices, quarantine changes, frost, water, labor, harvest and citrus markets. We look for the affected area, the varieties involved and any dates or deadlines. We post those details in short updates as information comes in.

We start with agency pest and quarantine notices, citrus crop and market reports, university research and water district updates. We also read trade and local news. Links in the articles take you to the reports and notices behind them.

Who runs it

Verdus Labs, Inc. owns Hectare Brief, which includes Citrus Brief. We use software to find information and draft articles. We choose what gets published and are responsible for errors.
