At the produce counter, the season can arrive in several colors at once: orange, red-blushed, and sometimes the dusky skin of a mandarin. For Sunkist Growers, the new California season is framed as a broad citrus offering, not a single-fruit bet.

The cooperative expects strong availability across key citrus varieties and says it is backing the season with category expertise, merchandising solutions, and integrated marketing intended to lift shopper engagement and sales. That is a retail-facing outlook, not a published tally of Sunkist’s expected shipments. The season outlook leaves the commercial work—getting fruit noticed and moved—squarely in the picture.

A wide citrus counter

The portfolio spans Navels, Cara Cara oranges, mandarins, Blood oranges, Minneola tangelos, lemons, grapefruit, and organic citrus. That range gives retailers several kinds of fruit to feature as the California season unfolds, while giving the cooperative more than one variety to put behind its promotional plans. Sunkist’s seasonal lineup is broad; the report does not break out volumes or timing for individual items.

Forecasts set the scale

California’s statewide crop estimates offer a useful backdrop, though they are not Sunkist shipment forecasts. The initial 2026–27 Navel estimate is 84 million cartons, based on the state’s objective measurement survey. The Navel forecast describes the crop at state scale, not the cooperative’s share of it.

For Tango and W. Murcott Afourer mandarins, the 2026–27 California forecast is 38 million 40-pound cartons. That estimate adds another marker for a season in which Sunkist is promoting a mixed assortment rather than a single headline fruit.

The distinction matters at the grove and packinghouse: statewide crop size, cooperative availability, and retail sell-through are related, but they are not interchangeable measures. Sunkist’s message is confidence in the season and a plan to support sales; the available report does not put a price, grower return, or variety-level shipment target on that confidence.
